“CONVIVENZA” MURAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NANTES IN FRANCE

The University of Nantes has entrusted to Ksenia Poncet the work on a mural in the lobby of the building of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures.

The original idea of this commission was to create a mural that will depict cultural and linguistic diversity and positive coexistence among different peoples.  This work should be in accordance with the architectural design as well as with the colors used in the interior decor of the faculty’s building.  Moreover, in the halls and amphitheaters of the faculty, there were already murals representing the languages and cultures studied there.  These frescoes represented the following cultures and languages: Italian, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, and many others.

This is why the second goal of the mural “Convivenza” was to bring together all these already existing thematic murals.

It was therefore necessary to bring life and energy into the lobby, a must-see place that welcomes students throughout the entire academic year.  For this project, the artist imagined a very modern and international representation of the city, a true intercultural hub inspired by cities like New York and Dubai where the artist had lived and stayed.  The portraits of the inhabitants of this city appear in the fireworks above skyline of this imaginary city.

This mural was hand painted with acrylic paint.

How to see this mural?  You can visit the building of the Faculty of Languages and Foreign Cultures, which is located on the campus of the University of Nantes.  Upon entering the building, you can easily see it just by looking up or taking the stairs right in front.
